Screen Door's Open: A Little Bit About Us
Something For Everyone
You'll never get tired of coming to Screen Door! As far as eats go, we have burgers, pizza, seafood, and tasty, healthy dishes. The variety is matched by a versatile physical space that's great for your local bar scene or comfy date night.
Screen Door has an outdoor play area for kids, tether ball, rock-hopping and good ol' cornhole. In addition to the games and recreational area, we have the beautiful screened outdoor patio, great vibes and beautiful screen door deco: it's our namesake!
Most of the kitchen at Screen Door is open air, purposefully built with an open floor plan, so people can see, smell and check out the kitchen face-to-face. We're a high energy restaurant and encourage interaction with the chefs (especially the kiddos).
Kids Eat Free... Always
Everyone works hard for their money, so we make sure kids eat free*. Families should always be able to go out and shouldn't have to wait for a special occasion. We try to make that experience available and affordable.
*One child per adult.
Screen Door's Story
James Island is eclectic, so we created a restaurant we could be proud of as locals where everyone has something they love, not just like.
We're a James Island neighborhood restaurant, passionate about the food we serve to all who come. We welcome all with Southern hospitality, but we're locals cooking for locals. We're here to be the staple restaurant for James Island, but traffic to Folly is no fun ... so if you can't make it all the way to the beach, stop on in. We have more parking than any other restaurant on James Island. Our atmosphere is fun, the food is versatile, and consistently prepared with high quality standards. We make it easy to go out for families (kids eat free* ... always)
*One child per adult
James island is eclectic and so are we. James Island now has a choice for consistently great food and great times. We've got style, and an environment that everyone can find a spot to get comfy. Whether it's our casual bar surrounded by Big Screen TVs, our wonderful outdoor play area, our screened in dining, our comfy booths, or our interactive kitchen view: we've got it all. There's something for everyone at Screen Door restaurant.
The Screen Door Team
Owner/ Founder & Fun Dept.
Kit, A charleston native, lives on James Island with three adopted children, all in James Island schools. An adventurer and opportunity creator in real estate, Kit brought her expertise to bear in starting the Screen Door restaurant. Excited to put a restaurant on James Island, she sought to finally give James Islanders a modern restaurant with a consistently superlative quality experience. She built the restaurant she wanted that James Island didn’t have.
It's because of this local commitment that she's in it for the long haul. She excited to serve James Islanders by saving them money through kids eating free, a beautiful location for date night, a family-friendly environment, and a thriving bar scene. We are becoming a home for locals for every occasion. James island is eclectic, and so is the Screen Door restaurant. She's proud of our home, always been involved with helping children, mentoring, open adoption, and with her creative eye, she crafts creative environments that are fun for all. It's a good gig, being head of the fun department.
Born in Bristol, Connecticut, Chef Rich began his training early assisting his grandmother in preparing her generation’s old recipes for Sunday dinners, a weekly ritual steeped in his family’s rich Italian heritage. Chef Rich says he “fell in love with the notion of food as art” during his time backpacking through France.
He returned home to attend and graduate from Culinary Institute of America (CIA). From there his passion for food has blossomed as has his career as a Chef. In 2015 Chef discovered The Screen Door, where he immediately saw potential for greatness. He now calls The Screen Door and James Island his home.
